Made in Italy, the mini-motorcycle called Vespa never proved much of a success in the U.S. market. But it made its mark around the world. Since 1946, the Vespa has kept its shape mostly unchanged from its original conception. Some 16 million have been sold as both basic and, at times, chic transport. Researched and written with the full cooperation of its manufacturer, Piaggio, this book documents Piaggio's rise and the development of the little "wasp" in all its permutations. The presentation is lighthearted, colorful, and thoroughly entertaining, with hundreds of archival photos and a complete listing of all models produced over the years. Most motorcycle history books ignore or, at best, look down on the lowly "scooters," so this information is not usually available elsewhere. Rising gas prices and a developing "hipster" image may yet bring the Vespa new success in this country, where there are currently 70 active dealerships, mostly in metropolitan areas. Bret Michaels recently teamed up with AMA Supercross to create a new award that supports athletes who've overcome hardship, on or off the track. The award is called the Bret Michaels Rock Hard-Ride Hard award, and it'll reward the hardest-charging, comeback rider of the 2011 Monster Energy AMA Supercross season.

The Poison frontrunner and star of the VH1 reality show Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It has experienced his own health obstacles recently: Michaels suffered from a brain hemorrhage and stroke last May and on Jan. 24 he'll be undergoing surgery to close a hole in his heart.

"It isn't whether you are going to go down, but when and how hard," said Michaels. "It's how you roll with the punches and how you get back up that counts. This award is about recognizing the hard charging rider that overcomes the worst odds and makes an amazing recovery."

The winner will be determined by a combination of votes from race fans and season rankings. Michaels will present the winner with the award -- a cash prize and a custom trophy guitar -- at the Supercross season finale at Las Vegas' Sam Boyd Stadium on May 7.

Michaels is a longtime supporter of motocross racing and a big fan of AMA Supercross. "Bret and I have been friends for quite some time, not only does he know how to rock an audience but he can rip off a killer lap time on a dirt bike," said SPEED and CBS Sports supercross broadcaster Ralph Sheheen. "He is a true motorcycle enthusiast who has a real passion for supercross, which is why this award is a perfect fit for Bret and the sport."

Said Michaels: "The Feld Motor sports team has been wonderful to work with and I am looking forward to continue working with them throughout the season." AMA Supercross

Admittedly, I am not a car person. People who are car people are really car people. They obsess over every detail and they have minimal respect for people with lousy cars.

For men, one of the biggest insults can be telling someone they drive a girly car. On the internet and in person there are endless debates about what makes and models top the list of womanliest cars in existance. These debates generally have no clear cut results.

Let me give you clear cut results. The following cars could possibly be the girliest cars in the world. That’s not an insult, just a statement of fact and perhaps even a compliment. The categorization of a “girly car” is probably stereotypical and has little to do with make or model. But if you are a man and you love yourself some Hello Kitty, you drive that car with pride. You’ll be in good company:

The SF Bicycle Coalition had a Volunteer Appreciation Night this past Wednesday at the Make Out Room. Bikes, volunteers, drinks and prizes. It was nice to see riders that I've volunteered with throughout the years, meet new coalition staff and share a drink with fellow bike lovers.
This was a nice gesture from the SFBC, thanks!& also thanks also for the gift certificate I won in the raffle.
I will be stopping by the Freewheel bike shop soon. More certificates, locks, fenders and a messenger bag were also given away. Very cool♥
